The Lord Spoke Her Name

Synopsis

Church history is full of familiar names and powerful stories—like those from Joseph and Emma Smith. But there are many other important and inspiring stories worth knowing, attached to names we might not recognize. Vienna Jaques is one such person. The only woman mentioned by name in the Doctrine and Covenants besides Emma Smith, Vienna lived a simple yet extraordinary life.

Deliverables

  • Primary book cover (print)

  • Spine and back cover layout

Design Solution:

Working closely with the author and art directors, I was asked to include a historic painting for the cover, and pair it with a traditional, elegant type treatment. The restrained design honors Vienna’s legacy and draws the eye to the artwork.

Key Visual Elements

  • Classic typography to match historical subject matter

  • Composition that centers the chosen painting

  • Subtle visual hierarchy for clarity and focus
